Doc's Weight Loss Challenge Fall 2013
In 2009, Dr. Kurene Ma’o created Doc’s Weight Loss Challenge (DWLC) to encourage and support people who wanted to a shift to a healthier lifestyle. Administered by Ohana Wellness Center, DWLC is a 10-week, "Biggest Loser-style" competition. However, rather than leaving participants to fend for themselves on their journey, DWLC offers free fitness and nutrition classes with certified instructors, as well as weight-loss support classes to help with the potholes along the way.
The Fall 2013 Season is under way. Be sure to join the Ohana mailing list to be notified when the Spring 2014 registration begins.
The mission of Doc's Weight Loss Challenge
is to encourage and support the community
to attain and maintain a healthy, successful lifestyle.
Dr. Kurene Ma’o created Doc’s Weight Loss Challenge to promote a healthier lifestyle in the community. As a medical doctor, he has seen the devastating consequences of obesity firsthand. An unhealthy body weight is associated with major health risks including diabetes, stroke, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, gout, cancer, osteoarthritis, gallbladder disease and sleep apnea. Through Doc’s Weight Loss Challenge, Dr. Ma’o and Ohana Wellness Center’s team of affiliated practitioners will provide the tools and information you need to help you reach your weight loss and fitness goals!
Dr. Ma’o knows that one of the most effective ways to stay motivated is by seeking support from others. That’s why he designed the challenge as a team competition. Team members can encourage one another while also holding each other accountable.

Diana Vogel, M.S., MFTI
Marriage & Family Therapist
Relationships of any nature can be complicated. At times, some find it helpful to call on a third party to help navigate through the emotional process of life. A good therapist can provide you with a safe place to help you explore your options, make sense of your choices and empower you to make the changes you long to embrace. As a psychodynamic/Bowenian based therapist, Diana believes our current behaviors and reactions stem from our influences earlier in life: how we grew up, parental role models, trauma and abuse. These early life influences shape who we are and continue to play a role in how we deal with others. Diana believes that it is through the exploration of multiple generations that clients are able to better understand who they are and how their behaviors came to be.
